This year we are returning to the Rockies for a little fun. Jennifer and the kids have not been back to Colorado since our Colorado River Rafting vacation in 2007. This year everyone is old enough to paddle on their own, so we are taking advantage, by rafting three days.
Our vacation will begin in Estes Park/Rocky Mountain National Park. Jennifer, Trevor and I once before visited Estes Park in 1995, when Trevor was a baby. We only went up for their Christmas parade, before heading back to Cheyenne. Had we the ability (time and money) to see RMNP then, we likely would have. This time we are spending a few days at a cabin at the YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park Center.
After Estes Park, we are heading South to Colorado Springs. While I’ve traveled here for work every year or so, the rest of the family has never been (except for a quick visit to the Air Force Academy in 1996). Here we will be hitting the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, as well as a little rafting.
Keystone will be our next destination. Here we will be staying in a condo in the River Run Village, minutes from the Keystone Gondola. While in Keystone/Breckenridge area we will be rafting, horseback riding, biking and more.
Our itinerary is packed full of fun activities:
- Hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP)
- Trail Ridge Road Scenic Byway
- Whitewater Rafting Bighorn Sheep Canyon
- Zip Lining in Estes Park
- Horseback Riding in Breckenridge
- Whitewater Rafting the Brown’s Canyon
- Biking Vail Pass to Frisco
- Hiking Ghost Towns
- Whitewater Rafting Clear Creek
- Hiking Garden of the Gods
- Summit Pikes Peak and Hike area
- and somewhere in there….relax
So keep an eye out for future blog posts, because it is likely I might take a picture or two.
