It has been a busy few months. Trevor leaving for basic training, car shopping and limited campsite availability has kept us from being able to take advantage of our Jayco. Luckily for us, Clark Family Campground was able to accommodate us. Lisa, Adrianna, Paul, and April all joined in on this trip. Lisa and Adrianna rented one of the small cabins, while Paul and April used their tent. They were right near one another, but I need to get a site a little farther away, to take advantage of the sewer hookup to clean out my tanks. We all arrived Friday afternoon. Jennifer rode over with Lisa and didn’t arrive until later. The rest of cooked out on the grill at our camper. After dinner, once everyone was there, we hung out and played with the “Chat Pack“, which led to some interesting, and deep discussions. That night, once everyone …keep reading …
2015-09: St. Augustine KOA, Florida
Once a year, KOA has a BOGO night on their “Value Kamper Reward” Appreciation weekend. If you are able to take advantage of this, it alone pays for your KOA membership. This particular weekend, we decided to make it a boys getaway, with Brandon, Trevor, Dan, Donavin, and myself. This is our second time camping here, but our first in an RV. The first time, we were in tents on the East side of the campground, backed up to the commerical buildings. It wasn’t much a “camping experience”. While only a row away, our spot this time had a much better “feel” to it. The campground is compact, but, considering its location, they do a good job of making you feel like you are not camping in the middle of an oceanside community. Our first and second nights, we ate dinner at the near-by A1A Burrito Works. I had the …keep reading …
2015-09: Lazydays RV Resort, Seffner, Florida
This was a totally thrown together, last minute trip. On Wednesday we just figured we might as well go camping this weekend. Our search for something around St. Augustine proved fruitless, so we figured we try out the RV Resort at LazyDays in Tampa. We drove over Saturday morning, stopping for lunch at Sonny’s in Lakeland on the way. Arriving at about 1:45, and setting camp. At the campground, we explored the property and walked over to the dealership to look at the new RVs. Jennifer and I have been tossing around the idea of putting a 5th wheel in to our upgrade plan, rather than a class A. At LazyDays, we saw the 5th we want; Montana 3791RD. For dinner, we decided to head out instead of cooking out. The weather was not conducive to grilling. Based on Yelp recommendations, we ate at Shamrock’s Ale House, which left much …keep reading …
2015-06: Orange Blossom KOA, Apopka, Florida
What started out as big plans to go tubing at the Springs, turned into something much simpler and relaxing. Rock Springs Run was our intended destination on Saturday. We woke up early, in order to get there in time before they closed the park due to crowds. Apparently not early enough. By 8:30AM There were hundreds trying to get into the park. So we changed up our plans and headed to the Mt. Dora Flea Market instead. As for the campground, it looks very nice and has great amenities. But it falls short in a couple areas; one of which (the water) will keep us from coming back. Specifics Dates: 2015-06-26 through 2015-06-28 Weather: Clear, upper 90s Spot: 36, Full Hookup Price: $40, with 10% Value Kard Discount Pros Cleanliness – Very clean grounds, pool, and bath houses. Pool – Very big, clean, not crowded, and recently refinished. Games – …keep reading …
2015-05: Clark Family Campground, Deland, Florida
What started out as a larger group trip, quickly turned into an adult getaway for Paul, April, Jennifer and myself. As could be expected, all of the spots at Blue Springs state park were taken, so we opted for a neighboring campground, Clark Family Campground, which gave a Passport America discount. Right when you pull in, you see the signature A-frame office, making it pretty obvious that this property was once a KOA. We checked in at about 8:30PM, shortly before they closed at 9PM. With it only being our second time out in our Jayco, it took us a little while to get the camper leveled out and setup, but there were no issues. Our plan for Saturday was to get up early and spend a few hours at Blue Springs, tubing and snorkeling. Instead, we decided to explore Cassadega and downtown Deland. In Cassadega, we explored the bookstore …keep reading …
